Our fees are therefore heavily subsidised, and, depending on available funding, we are able to offer additional subsidies for participants who can’t afford these fees.

How long is a Toolbox parenting course?
One two hour session per week for six weeks

What is covered in the Toolbox parenting course?
In an informal, relaxed and friendly environment parents are equipped with practical skills and strategies that can be immediately put to use. Key parenting principles are explored. Participants are encouraged in their parenting and go away with a range of fun activities and strategies to try at home. There is a comprehensive manual, ‘experts’ on video and lively interaction. Read more details on Toolbox course content.

What do I get for my money?

2. HOT TIPS SEMINARS

When will a seminar come to my town?
On receiving an invitation from a group (a school or pre-school, parenting organisation or church group) we will work with the host team to bring this event to your town.

Find out when we’ll next be presenting a Hot Tips seminar in your region.

Is it worthwhile attending a parenting or relationship seminar on my own?
Most definitely – everybody can gain something by attending our Hot Tips seminars.  Couples will gain maximum benefit for their family if they can both attend.

How much will it cost to attend a seminar?
Ticket prices are set by the local organiser, so it can vary from a gold coin donation to $20 per person for a 1-night seminar up to $50 for a couple to attend a 2-night seminar. Local organisers are also happy to help people who would like to attend a seminar but can’t afford to.

How long does a seminar last?
The presentation spreads over 2½ hours, plus a supper break in the middle.  If a seminar starts at 7.00 pm it will conclude by 10 pm; 7.30 pm seminars conclude by 10.15 pm.

Will I have to take my own notes or do you provide me with material?
A seminar manual will be available at each seminar for $10 (sometimes it will be free if local sponsorship has been arranged).  The manual contains a lot more information than the presenters can fit into their 2½ hour presentation.  There is plenty of space to add your own notes to the manual.

Is there anything I can follow up on after attending a seminar?
A selection of resources will be available for sale at each seminar. These can also be purchased online.
If a seminar has only whet your appetite for more parenting information, you might like to attend one of our Toolbox parenting groups.

If you have a personal problem you’d like in-depth advice on, you can contact the Parents Inc. Family Coach.

Who can host a seminar?
Anyone who is interested in organising a community-wide parenting or relationship event but you will need to gather a team of about ten people from different community groups to successfully bring an event to your town.  We provide all organisers with a comprehensive Seminar Organisers’ Guide that will take you through all the steps.

Please contact the Hot Tips Seminar Department at Parents Inc. on 09 524 1388 or 0800 53 56 59 for more information.

3. NO SWEAT PARENTING EVENTS

What is the goal of the evening?
No Sweat Parenting events are community events that bring people together from all walks of life with food, music and laughter where parents and caregivers can be encouraged in the journey of parenting in a fun and entertaining way.

How long is the event?
The events are held in the evening and last 2.5 hours with a break in between for supper.

Are there follow up evenings?
Yes! – The first No Sweat parenting night is aimed at developing the parent coach in you. We have three other nights available. We usually run these at later dates so as not to hit people with too much information.

  • No Sweat night two is building an awesome family
  • No Sweat night three is aimed at parenting teenagers!

We also offer No Sweat Korero where Pio Terei comes and presents our material in a more casual way. A bit of a chat, a bit of a laugh. This is more informal and a smaller event spanning about 1 ½ hours.

Can I get funding?
No Sweat Parenting Events rely heavily on local involvement and networking and provide an ideal opportunity to strengthen ties within your local community. In most cases local community groups, councils and businesses are more than happy to sponsor such an event. The positive impact on your local community is a major selling point for support. Parents Inc. supports the local organising team with publicity, material, advice and guidelines.

How many people do you expect at an event?
We are aiming for impact and many people feel comfortable hiding in a crowd. Our major No Sweat Parenting nights usually attract around 250 – 500 people. The Korero is aimed at about 120 – 300.
